Steve Pyke has been staff photographer at The New Yorker for almost four years. He started shooting for them before Avedon’s death. But he, too, has an Avedonesque style. Sometimes confusingly so. It would be nice to see them branch out a bit stylistically. They use writers with different strengths, so why must all their photographers have such similar styles? You can see Pyke’s New Yorker spreads at http://www.pyke-eye.com/newyorker.html
Platon has his own style. Many of us have been influenced by Richard Avedon and many others. When you plan a shoot, going in with your own vision, the influences that have become part of you, do show. That does not mean the photo is not your own. Every image taken is unique and one of a kind.
