  1. Horses Think: Sorry for your loss. I just finished looking at Beth’s work for the first time and her work is inspiring. She has passed unfortunately however thankfully she has left something meaningful behind that transcends many lives. It’s apparent that Beth loved life and lived the life of that which is examined. We should all be so lucky. May her work live on !! I’m curious as to what happened to Beth unless of course it’s to personal ?

i knew beth in houston. she was just getting started on her dream. my parents and i got to know her well, and we were one of the first to look at her work. i am proud to say i own one of her moving pieces…and my parents have three. i am so sad that she will not be here any longer, but i am proud to have known such a kind a gentle soul. she will undoubtedly rest in peace and we will all ensure that her amazing talent lives on.

Beth was my roommate from 2001-2003. I was so shocked to hear of her sudden passing. My condolences to her family-especially to her Mother. We were all lucky to have known such a genuine and talented woman.

  5. Tina says:

I went to college with Beth where we studied under Joel Sternfeld. Her talent, curiosity, amazing people skills and humor was inspiring. Beth and I went to Indonesia and Nepal together in 1992. Everywhere we went she broke down barriers and made friends. She had a real talent drawing people out in her kind and gentle way.

She was on to a really interesting and complex project when she died. I hope we will be able to see that work some day.

Prayers go out to her mother, Grandmother, step-father.
She was loved and will be missed.

  6. Sarah says:

I also went to college with Beth and all I can say is that Beth was a wonderful friend. She inspired me and really made me think about life. I will really miss her. She will be greatly missed.

My thoughts are also with her mother, Grandmother, and step-father.

I knew Beth when she was a little girl with those big brown eyes that would one day fit the camera so well to tell the stories she was seeing and feeling. When you move away you sometimes loose track of people but some stay with you, floating in and out of your thoughts even though you don’t see them in person. I am so sorry for the loss of this special person to her family, friends and to me personally.
When you hear the soft flapping of a doves wing it will be Beth looking down upon us with those big brown eyes. Missing you. Jerry

Beth was my cousin. She was the most non judgemental, loving person I know. Through her photography, and the memories we have of her, we can keep her alive in our hearts. She was so young with so much wisdom. Earl and I will miss you, Beth.

  9. Richard Goldstein says:

Beth was a transforming individual. Her impact is felt by all who came in contact with her and her work. She will be missed.

  10. Beth Block is my cousin. She was and is “Zelda” to me. Her passing came as a huge shock. Still am in deep mourning. Hard to get one’s arms around the “randomness” of it all. We grew up as only children together. Our mothers are sisters and our connection sisterly. I grieve for Beth. I am deeply saddened for my aunt. Time helps heal yet there will remain a scare on our hearts. While our lives took divergent paths, our hearts sought to view the world through contemplative eyes. Beth’s through photography and mine through film. As I continue to work on a documentary about happiness with my daughter, Kayla, I remain keenly aware of our need to live fully and in the moment. Beth’s vision lives on through the legacy of her gifted and magnificent work!

I met Beth at FotoFest Houston years ago. We made friends there. I have always enjoyed viewing her work. She was very talented…Now, I am blaming myself for not having shown her photography in Prague yet. I thought we would have time, that we would make an exhibition together some day. I am sorry Beth. I can’t believe you are gone. I am recalling our talks and moments we spent together…I see your smile…I will miss you, Beth. My thoughts are with you. Love, Eva.

Beth’s warmth, wisdom and aethetic vision became more and more evident when every few years our paths crossed – tragic for such a lovely soul to have life cut in the middle – when Charlene called to tell me what happened – it both sent a chill and made me feel the grave need this world has for more Beths!
an absolutely breathtaking photo of Beth’s is in my living room –
Charlene & McCarthy and friends and family – so sorry

Knew Beth since she was a little cutie pie at 4 yrs. Charlene, her mom , was the hub center of several established photographers in the Montrose (the Village of Houston) always with an invisible welcome mat at her door for all with an open heart and a place of comfort and connecting with others. It has been interesting to witness Lil Beth come into her own as a photographer and young woman with the previous challenges she was confronted with concerning her health. She was a go getter and relentless with regards to her career. Maybe her sudden death is a metaphor as to how she lived. Photographers are a curious breed who lust experiences of life passionately and seek the light and the mystery of what life presents. Beth grew up with the who’s who in the art and photography scene here in Big H to later move to Brooklyn with her mom and then Japan . While still in school as a young girl she and her mom back backed across Europe on a train. What an enriched life she had. Bless you Beth and Charlene. May the force be with you. XOXOX

I am so shocked to hear of Beth’s passing away. We had exchanged so much about life, passion… She was so young to go. I just feel so much lucky even though I had spent only few moments her. God bless her soul and rest in piece. My condolences to her family-especially to her Mother. Beth, you will be missed by all. Jay
